The Dexawave wave egergy converter is a machine designed to create electrical power from waves on the ocean. The aim is to tryand create the cheapest, most effective and most reliable converter that can b on the ocean for a long time since the conditions are very tough. It is a very simple construction that consists of two rigid pontoons hinged together using a patented hinge. There is a hydraulik power system on top of the converter and it generates up to 250 kw. The Dexawave system is being developed to produce electricity for the same price as coal, natural gas and onshore wind. An important factor to reduce cost is to use low cost material that need little or no maintenance.

A 1/5 scale model is currently being tested in Hanstholm, Denmark and another in Malta. It is an interesting process to see if the models will perform well in order to secure investors and also to hopefully get the technology mass produces within too many years. To really become a success the models have to both be gentle towards the environment and not cause any damage to nature but the people behind it still wants to make a lot of money so that the industry can be successfull building the wave energy converter.

Wave energy has an untapped energy potential of up to three times the current world consumption. The international energy agency has designated wave energy as an energy filled with potential on a par with og even greater than the potential of wind energy.
